In the Way 1 Thessalonians 2:16

1 Thessalonians 2:16 Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

Ok, so why wouldn’t the Jews want a Gentile to be saved? Well, it wasn’t that they didn’t want them to be saved it’s that they wanted them to become proselytes to their religion. Look at Matthew 23:15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. The law of Moses had clear regulations that had to be followed in order to become part of the Jewish church. And Paul was out there telling them that the Gentiles were on the same playing field as the Jew. That the Gentiles could have salvation just as easy as the Jew. They didn’t have to be circumcised, and they didn’t have to follow the law of Moses. All they had to do was repent and believe and they would have everlasting life! That’s all any of us have to do!

to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost. Again what Paul is saying here is they are doing things now as they have always done. They resist God, and it has become their character to resist God. So Paul is saying now, because they refuse to see the truth and they are keeping souls from being saved the wrath of God has as good as come upon them. Not that it has, but at this point its not looking good.

You know it’s one thing when you or I don’t have faith in God or believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead. But it’s a whole other story when we stand in the way of someone else’s salvation!
