Walk Worthy of God 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12

Posted: October 12, 2010 in 1 Thessalonians

1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, (12)That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

Paul exhorted them, he encouraged them by calling them to Jesus Christ. And he comforted them, with wise council. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for any new believer at that time with all the killing of Christians that was going on. Paul had to be of great encouragement to them, and notice that he says ” and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,” Paul again is the perfect example of a Shepard leading his flock. He took time to privately attend to the needs of those who needed him. The sign of a good teacher is one that doesn’t just stand at the pulpit and preach the gospel, but he go’s to those in need of personal attention. Earlier in V. 7 Paul likens himself as a nursing mother and now a loving father, teaching and encouraging every one of them.

I believe this should be the same for us. We all need to be exhorted and comforted and maybe one way to get that is to do what Paul does here, exhort and comfort others in their walk with Christ.

Paul wraps up in V. 12 and tells us why he did everything the way he did and why his coming to them was not in vain.

  1. v.2 suffered and preached boldly
  2. v.3 no deceit or uncleanness
  3. v.4 not pleasing men, but rather God
  4. v.5 no flattering words or cloke of covetousness
  5. v.6 didn’t seek glory or money
  6. v.7 gentle among them as a nurse cherisheth her children
  7. v.8 so desirous of them to come to the Lord they would give their own souls
  8. v.9 laboring night and day
  9. v.10 they behaved holy and justly
  10. v.11 exhorted and comforted as a father doth his children

And here it is;

1 Thessalonians 2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

That’s the reason Paul did what he did, that you would walk worthy of God, The God that called you into his kingdom of glory.” This should be our goal in everything we do and say. There is nothing more worthy then pleasing the God who made us and called us. Check this verse out, it’s one I posted on my Facebook page just the other day.

Proverbs 8:22-23 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

God called me and you to His kingdom of glory and I used my free will to gladly accept the offer. Do you?

  1. Eydee says:

2Co 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Grace = Sinful humans being invited into the Kingdom of Glory of God by accepting the free gift of salvation that is born of faith in Jesus’ payment of those sins by His death and His resurrection being the acceptance of that sacrifice….~Grace….Amazing!
